Facts stay in ~/.amem on your machine. One command — then open the UI. Upgrade to Pro later inside the app if you want richer retrieval and hygiene.

npx @iamem/amem setup

npm i -g @iamem/amem && amem setup

Node 20+. Then run amem ui — upgrade to Pro there when you want it. Source on GitHub.
